A Brave New Year

Thank you for the beauty of the year that was. May the new year be even better. I have faith in new beginnings, in reset buttons and fervent hopes. I wish for a better 2013, much better than last year and the year before it. I long for many more trips and journeys, with love and kisses backlighted by the setting sun. I wish for more words, gentle and steady, and the warmest hug, in and outside the hamster ball.

Coming Full Circle at the Circle

"I don't want to go to school," she said and plunged back to sleep.

That meant extra minutes of sleep for me, too because I wouldn't have to bring her to school so I didn't object at all.

Later when we woke up once more, she asked to tag along with me to an interview in a government office and then suggested a visit to the Quezon City Circle. I obliged.

The Circle, after all, is where my father and I shared so many of my childhood memories. I remember those long Sunday walks from our home to the Circle -- my brothers and I -- with him. We would walk the long walk from the house and eat warm goto or arroz caldo at the Circle. It was there, too where he taught me how to ride a bike.

It was hilarious and fun and the memories all came back that Wednesday Araw and I went to Circle. We ran and we laughed, walked and rode the bike. We ate ice cream, too. We just strolled along, enjoying ourselves under the scorching heat of the noonday sun, while the rest of her classmates went to school.
